Since we are receiving lots of questions regarding the 2025 Jubilee in Rome and what it means to you if you are planning a trip to Rome for 2025, we are pleased to give some more information and some recommendations. The Vatican Jubilee, also known as a Holy Year, is a Catholic religious event that is a time for forgiveness, reconciliation, and conversion. The 2025 Jubilee will be centered around the theme “Pilgrims of Hope”. The Jubilee will begin on December 24, 2024, when the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica is opened, and will end on January 6, 2026, when the Holy Door is closed. The opening of the Holy Doors in the four major basilicas in Rome signals the start of the Jubilee Year. The Holy Door in Saint Peter’s Basilica is bricked up, but the wall is removed before the Christmas Eve rites to allow the door to be opened. Pilgrimages The Jubilee is a time for pilgrims to travel to Rome to pass through the Holy Doors and seek God’s mercy. Events will be taken place during the whole year and pilgims will gather in Rome for their prayers. The Jubilee pilgrims will not be overstepping to the usual locations where international tourist go and will be gathering in some churches that usually are not included in the regular tours. So far there are not contraindications to plan a trip to Italy that will include Rome as destination. Other parts of Italy will not be affected by the Jubilee.
