If you have decided Ocho Rios is where you want to vacation, be sure to include the following activities as part of your itinerary.
1.) Dunn River Falls
Dunn’s River Falls is a famous for its beauty, its uniqueness, attracting thousands of visitors each year. That perhaps is the down side, you will usually find it teeming with people. Unlike most other falls here you don’t just look at these rushing waters, you get in, get wet, get exhilarated while hang on to your neighbor. From the tranquil sea you will climb 600 feet to the top of the falls. Yes, it is touristy, but so is seeing to Coliseum while in Roman, and you wouldn’t miss that! Dunn River Falls don’t just drop in a vertical gush of water, they rush over terraced stones fashioning a staircase fit for a giant or the determined. Surrounded by the jungle with the sunlight dappling through the canopy, the caw of birds, slow flowing pools set between the cascading water, amid flat and rounded boulders washed smooth by time, a millennium of water droplets shaping them. Dunn River Falls is definitely a don’t miss destination. Do bring good water shoes as some rocks are very slippery – – Don’t worry the local guides are tremendous at safely getting you to the top. This is a day you will remember for a very long time and certain to be a highlight of your Jamaican vacation.
2.) Turtle Beach
Sometimes called Ocho Rios Bay Beach, Turtle Beach is a favorite for those, including locals, who enjoy water sports and people-watching. It is located near the resort hotels, bars, restaurants and shops along Main Street. Swimming conditions are excellent there, and it has water-toy rentals and changing facilities. Expect to be hustled (and sometimes hassled) by vendors selling everything from straw baskets to fresh pineapple—it’s also the place to get your hair braided in cornrows. Be aware that the shoreline to the northeast isn’t public—it’s part of the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa. Daily 8:30 am-5:30 pm.
3.) Tubing down the White River
This wonderful three-mile journey down a section of Jamaica’s White River takes about 45 minutes of actual tube time. The lush tropics of Jamaica making tubing a welcome experience even on the hottest days due to the cooling shade the lush vegetation throws over our heads as we slip down the river, ambling, sometimes swirling always thrilling!
